The Good Shepherd Home is located in a delightful setting on the banks of the Ross River with the award winning Palmetum providing a spectacular backdrop. The immediate area is also home to James Cook University and The Townsville Hospital. Major shopping and motel accommodation are within easy distance of the Home.

The Home offers both permanent nursing home and hostel style accommodation as well as short term respite care. A day respite centre also operates for the benefit of community clients.

Low Care Hostel

Hostel accommodation is generally for Residents with low care needs. Residents in this area have their own room with ensuite. Areas in the hostel include a kitchen, garden and gazebo.
High Care Nursing Home

If and when it becomes necessary, hostel residents can access a higher level of care by transferring to the nursing home located in the residential wings. Here, accommodation is predominately in shared rooms, although individual rooms are also available.

Each residential wing has a communal lounge with amenities such as TV, video, CD player and radio.

The style of accommodation provided depends on the needs of the individual, as assessed by an Aged Care Assessment Team (ACAT), as well as on the preferences of the individual and their family.

All Residents are encouraged to personalise their room with favourite mementos, chairs, TV, radio etc.

Superior Accommodation - Riverview House

This is a luxurious facility with deluxe accommodation for high care residents. This new building emphasises the style and comfort you would expect of your own home.

You will also have access to the Homes' allied health professionals, physiotherapy, podiatry, speech therapy and occupational therapy as well as access to the regularly scheduled outings and activities within the Home. In addition, there is an excellent choice of menu available.
